Environmental Services Overview
Te Hapori Hiko is a West Auckland–based organisation specialising in
community-led environmental restoration, food security, and sustainability
initiatives grounded in mātauranga Māori, kaitiakitanga, and whānau
wellbeing. We work alongside, Council, whānau, hapū, kura, community
groups, and local partners to deliver place-based solutions that respond
directly to the environmental and social needs of our communities.
We are driven and passionate about developing innovative, engaging
environmental solutions that uplift communities, with a strong focus on
building trusted community relationships and fostering environmental
guardianship through meaningful community engagement. Our strength lies
in our ability to connect people to place, empowering communities to take
an active role in caring for te taiao.
Our kaupapa recognises the deep interconnection between healthy
ecosystems and thriving whānau. Our mahi is intergenerational and inclusive,
creating pathways for tamariki, rangatahi, and kaumātua to reconnect with
whenua and wai, grow and share kai, and contribute to positive
environmental outcomes.
By combining on-the-ground environmental action with education, skills
development, and strong partnerships, Te Hapori Trust supports communities
to build the knowledge, confidence, and collective capability needed to
sustain long-term environmental and social wellbeing. Our approach centres
dignity, empowerment, and collective responsibility, ensuring our
environmental services deliver lasting cultural, social, and ecological impact
across West Auckland.
Empowering Communities Through Digital Media
Te Hapori Hiko is a charitable trust committed to strengthening the digital
capability of community organisations, non-profits across Aotearoa. We
understand that many organisations carry a powerful kaupapa, but lack the
digital tools, resources, or confidence to tell their story in today’s fast-moving
media landscape. Our role is to bridge that gap — empowering communities
with the skills and support they need to thrive online.
We believe every organisation deserves a strong digital footprint. Whether it’s
sharing important kaupapa, engaging whānau, promoting community
initiatives, or building long-term sustainability, digital presence is now essential.

access to professional media expertise, training, and technology.
Our Experience
Our work is led by industry veterans Thane and Richard Kirby, who together
bring over 50 years of media experience across television, radio, film, digital
production, broadcasting, and brand development. Their careers include
creating content that has reached national audiences and shaped
Aotearoa’s media landscape. This deep experience allows Te Hapori Hiko to
offer credible, professional guidance to organisations that may be stepping
into the digital world for the first time.
We combine professional-quality production with a community-driven
approach. Our mission is not just to deliver services — but to build capability,
confidence, and digital independence for the organisations we support. At
